Vintage Halloween

Halloween night, circa 1994.

Vintage Halloween is what I remember trick-or-treating smelling like in the '90s.

First, that cool October night air. Then the fallen leaves and the musty, earthy smell underneath your feet. My parents had a crabapple tree in the backyard, so there were always mushy apples mixed into those leaves and dirt.

And then there's the candy bag.

You know the smell: Reese's mixing with Starbursts and Tootsie Rolls, everything sticking to the M&Ms, the whole thing becoming one glorious, candy-scented mess. That's what this is, and it literally makes me tear up every time I smell it.
